Hello Bookish Friends!

My name is Monsi, and i'm the founder of The Dear Writer Co.

I've always had a passion for reading, and would often prefer the company of books rather than school events, friends, and parties.

It wasn't until 2019, where reading became my salvation.

On December 28th, 2018 I went to the doctor after having wrist pain for many months. I spoke with 3 doctors and they each said I had cyst and they prepared for a procedure (aspiration) right then and there, no imaging, nothing. It was a painful procedure that had no results, but they slapped a bandaid on me and sent me on my way.

It wasn't until a few days later, when the pain was still intense and the swelling hadn't gone down that we realized something went wrong. Multiple doctor visits later it was determined that I did not have a cyst, I did not need the procedure, and I now had nerve damage.

The anxiety I felt was overwhelming. I could no longer do art, play the piano, cook, work, or normally function with my dominant hand. My hand would give out no matter what I was holding or doing. Reading was the only thing that brought me any happiness because I was able to escape and live within the pages.

I had planned to start my business before my procedure had happened but it no longer felt possible. I didn't know what to do with myself...But then I noticed my father who was going through chemo and other medical issues, not once stopped pursuing his dream business (HVAC). I realized in those moments that I could either let my disability define me, or I could overcome it.

After many months and sessions of physical therapy I was finally able to gain most functions of my hand. Unfortunately to this day the pain still hasn't subsided but it is something i've learned to live with, and no longer let define my days.

So I began working on my business in February of 2020 and officially launched in April. The Dear Writer Co. gave me my life back, and it brings me so much joy and pride to hand make each item.

If you have read this far, let me give you the most sincerest thank you! My story did not start as a happy one, and although some days are hard, I would not change it for the world because it brought me right to this moment.
